Established in 2007, Albam was born out of frustration by its founders wanting to discover what items could be designed and produced locally in Britain. With an ethos of being timelessly British and focusing their design on confidence and craftsmanship, Albam is a key offering at HIP. The London based brand focuses on fabrics, fits and finishes to create a truly understated line of clothing that forms to its wearer.
Over time, Albam has grown and evolved to provide the perfect capsule wardrobe for the person who believes in well-made and honest clothes with no surprises. Although the brand draws its inspiration from core classic menswear, it is still able to look towards the future. Traditional historic garments are updated with modern details down to buttons, fastenings and linings to improve day to day life for the discerning wearer. Working with some of the UK and Europe’s finest craftsmen and factories, Albam produce four collections a year of original, contemporary essentials that combine the best of classic touches and modern fabrications to create garments built to last you years upon years.
Inspiration for Albams AW20 collection, in particular the outerwear, is split into two distinct parts, with both the beauty of British outdoors orienteering and smart traditional uniforms of the 80’s both playing a role. Looking at the orienteering aspect more closely, Albam have taken the best bits of the often dreary and wet British youthful pastime to create vintage inspired functional styles such as the Zip Through Cagoule – which is made using a premium British drywax canvas that’s water-resistant, breathable and durable, direct from the Halley Stevensons fabric mill in Scotland. Continuing the orienteering theme, Albam also present their hero jacket for the season aptly named the Orienteering Parka. This classic yet contemporary piece has also been crafted from same premium British drywax canvas, with its distinct colourway drawing influence from vibrant colour combinations of vintage 80’s outdoorswear. Combining these details with a larger fit for layering and an ample amount of pockets, this Parka from Albam works as well as it does up on the hills as it does in the hustle and bustle of the city.
Along with finding authentic inspirations that speak to the brands design, Albam also take fabric selection very seriously. For AW20, Albam looked towards the UK to source their drywax and water resistant coated cotton and canvas, whilst looking to Italy for lightweight garment dyed and defined cottons and nylons for lighter pieces. Keeping their shirting selection strong as always, the brand picked out classic heavier woven weights mixed with these lighter Italian cottons in richer colours to help circle back to that 80’s working class feel.
Highlighting our latest delivery from Albam, technical drywax outerwear is complemented with staple styles returning in new seasonal designs in the form of the Traders Jacket and Mile Shirt, whilst the Quarter Zip Pullover lands in a variety of colourways to satisfy those comfier at home and layering situations.
