‘Northern Pride’ – New Balance Made in UK at HIP – a poem by John Joseph Holt
John Joseph Holt is an award-winning writer, artist and founder of documentary publication LAW. A portrayal of the beautiful everyday in Britain – overlooked stories immortalised in print.
The poem is a mixture of conversations John had with people in local shops, processes learnt ‘on the line’ at the Made in UK Flimby factory, and memories of going to visit his Gran in the Lakes growing up. “I Imagined it as a pair of shoes leaving the factory and passing through the landscape before arriving in store or at someone’s front door.”
New Balance’s Made in UK range is a collection of special, hand-crafted models made in Flimby – a small village in Cumbria with a population of 1700 people. A proud symbol of British shoemaking craft.
