Opt for Orange

Add a pop of this seasons on-trend orange into your winter wardrobe by scrolling through our latest editorial. There are plenty of options from us in this must-have colour in a variety of styles from several brands. Whether it’s through accessories, staples, layers or a statement coat, our latest guide confirms that the colour orange worn right can look stunning.

So be bold and move away from the sometimes-boring wintertime palate of navy, grey and black and inject some life into your cold season set-up. Inspired by Milan and Paris catwalks from the start of this year, brands have introduced orange onto some core styles and there are some nice tones and shades on offer.

Injecting the colour orange via an accessory or some footwear is a gateway move and rather risk-free. Whether it’s a pair of Anonymous Ism socks, a Fjallraven Kanken or Byron beanie, or even a burnt-orange pair of Clarks Originals Wallabees it’s a shrewd but strong move.

Mid-layers are a fail-safe alternative too, take the Norse Projects Vorm Mercerised Sweatshirt or the corduroy Barbour Morris shirt for example, a gorgeous garment on its own but also a low-key colour supplement under your layers.

Feeling a bit more fearless? Then pick up a statement jacket in the shade of orange this year. Whether it’s your Patagonia rainwear or your down-filled Penfield coat you’ll be bang on trend, just don’t overdo the colour count beyond the jacket and it’s a striking look.

So hopefully all that should have you feeling inspired and encouraged by the colour orange, and always remember confidence is king.

G.H. Bass & Co. x Cape Heights

For the winter season, New England outerwear brand Cape Heights and American heritage footwear label G. H. Bass & Co. collaborate on the Quail Razor Boot. This style made its debut in the 50s as a hiking boot and today it’s as reliable as ever, updated with a contemporary aesthetic using the creative flair and expertise of both brands. The shoe is second to none in terms of strength and endurance, made with quality materials and expert craftsmanship.

The Quail Razor is a 5.5” lace up boot and features hands-stitched seams in an off-white heavy waxed thread, woven Cape Heights branding to the tongue, an Originals Bass woven label, a natural pigskin inside lining and an EVA wedge midsole. The upper is sat on a rippled outsole and a 360-degree natural flat welt stitch and both styles have a natural leather lining to the molded EVA microfiber footbed with gold embossed branding. The black leather option has reflective fleck hiking laces with an additional set of dark brown leather laces, matt black ski hooks and eyelets and the chipmonk suede and leather version has red hiking laces with an additional set of chestnut leather laces and brass ski hooks and eyelets to finish.

Universal Works x The Hip Store AW17

Long-time compatriots and celebrated British menswear brand Universal Works have blessed us with an exclusive Bakers Jacket for the winter season. We first linked up with the Nottingham-based label for an exclusive in autumn last year and this time out we couldn’t be happier with the end product.

The Bakers jacket is as an ever-present figure within the Universal Works catalogue and since its debut collection in ’09 the Bakers jacket has always been a favourite. Essentially, it’s a modern update of a traditional baker’s jacket, loosely based on what David Keyte’s dad used to wear to work.

Our exclusive Bakers jacket includes the addition of a rear pocket, a neck tab and a dual branded label to the inside collar of this Universal Works staple. Our second collaboration is updated with a new colour cord and check lining.

The Universal Works x The Hip Store Bakers Jacket will be available, in limited numbers, online and in-store on 17/11/17.
