Community Culture: Village Books Manchester – Patta AW22 Collection
To highlight the launch of Patta’s latest AW22 collection at HIP, we met up in Manchester with Mo from Village Books on Oldham Street. Based across Leeds, Manchester & online – Village is a bookshop & gallery that offers a curated selection of contemporary art, design, fashion and photography publications, with a strong focus on self-published & small press zines from artists around the world.
‘Out of love and necessity rather than profit and novelty’, the Patta story first began in 2004 when founders Edson Sabajo and Gee Schmidt combined their obsession of sneakers and records by creating a store in Amsterdam. As demand steadily grew, the Patta label was born. Today, Patta is a globally revered, black-owned streetwear brand that stands for community, culture and collaboration. Immersing itself in subcultures from around the world, Patta’s multi-disciplinary approach has earned it respect and love, with the label transcending clothing.
