HIP Spotlight: Scandinavian Clothing – Our Curation Of Danish Brands

Scandinavian design is one of the success stories of recent years. Simple and unconcerned with trends, Scandinavian labels have carved out their own approach to menswear; our curation at HIP seamlessly blends genres, interpreting styles within workwear, outdoorswear and sportswear. Their design language often takes inspiration from Nordic functionalism and is reflected through a commitment to craft and usage of technical materials.
Ferm Living
First beginning as a Danish graphic design studio started in 2005 by Trine Andersen – Ferm Living grew into a lifestyle brand out of frustration of what was available in the current market. Producing extensive collections of lifestyle products with sustainability at the forefront – Ferm Living blurs the lines between traditional Scandinavian taste and contemporary graphic design. The label collaborates with artisans around the world, focusing on the soft forms in each collection – subtle details, rich textures and curious shapes that allow you to “create composed atmospheres with a touch of the unexpected”. As we seek to navigate the contrasts of modern life – Ferm Living’s passion for authentic design creates balance, with honest products that inspire comfort and allow people to be themselves within their own home and follow their inspirations.
Norse Projects
No conversation about Scandinavian clothing can take place without discussing Norse Projects. At the heart of the region’s success within menswear in recent years, Norse continues to develop its range of versatile garments and accessories. With the slogan ‘CREATED FOR LIFE – GOOD FOR ALL SEASONS’, Norse Projects provides a full spectrum of clothing. Recent years have seen a sharp focus on modern technical materials which has added another layer of practicality to the brand. Whilst its classic, clean-cut styling remains a defining feature.
NN07
With a clean style that transcends fads and trends, NN07 began in 2007 with a mission to redefine the modern-casual wardrobe. It balances sophistication with comfort, creating versatile and tasteful pieces designed for the modern man. With its name standing for No Nationality, NN07 projects an inclusive philosophy inspired by the divergent communities and personalities around the globe. In serving its wearers’ needs, NN07 makes “responsibly made-to-last products with attention to the needs of today, and tomorrow”.
Samsoe Samsoe
Another label to draw upon Copenhagen’s street style is Samsoe Samsoe. The label first began in 1993, when the Samsoe brothers opened a small namesake jewellery shop in the city’s Latin Quarter. Later becoming an international fashion house, the brand’s aesthetic perfectly captures the region’s minimalist style, portraying a Scandinavian spirit in everything it does. In both its Men’s and Women’s collections, Samsoe Samsoe offers unique, well-designed garments that will enhance any wardrobe.
Wood Wood
Wood Wood was founded in Copenhagen in 2002. Karl-Oskar Olsen and Brian SS Jensen have developed the brand into a highly covetable label all around the world. Wood Wood has grown from a small lifestyle boutique selling limited edition t-shirts, sneakers, skateboards and art into a world-famous fashion brand collaborating with some huge names, including Maharishi, Adidas, Champion, Nike and Barbour – to name a few. The label is firmly rooted in global street culture and has incorporated elements of major cities like Tokyo and Los Angeles, and the spirit of its hometown Copenhagen, into its style, attitude and philosophy. Touching on music, film and art with seasonal collections that include playful and expressive graphics across classic silhouettes – Wood Wood knows no boundaries.

New Balance Tokyo Design Studio x Stone Island RC_ELITE V2

New Balance join forces with Stone Island as part of a continuation of a new long-term partnership that sees the reinterpretation of the innovative RC ELITE v2 racing shoe. The shoe’s highly breathable upper represents the combination of antithetical elements, between distinctive elements of the New Balance heritage aesthetic and cutting-edge materials and techniques, such as the mesh construction and application of the logo, which are both 3D. The midsole uses lightweight FuelCell technology and a full carbon fibre plate, offering the highest energy return with propulsive transition and 360-degree functionality, designed to allow for faster running. The 3D knit upper provides lightweight structure and features a thin, super breathable, race-ready vamp. The shoe is finished with strategic 3D printed medial and lateral branding with New Balance graphics on the right foot and the Stone Island Compass logo on the left foot, whilst New Balance’s highest rebound midsole compound combines with the full-length carbon fibre plate for maximised energy return.
