adidas Spezial SS17 by Mat Buckets
New season adidas Originals Spezial always gathers a lot of attention. We thought we’d take to the streets of Manchester with fashion and lifestyle blogger Mat Buckets and photographer Jake Millers to give the latest SS17 gear a run out. The range consists of the military inspired Haslingden II Jacket, the full Forest Gate tracksuit and the Mallison trainer, amongst others. Have a look at the results below…
The Haslingden II Jacket – This men’s jacket is made in CORDURA®, a technical material often favoured for military gear because of its durability and weather resistance. Multiple cargo pockets give it a utility-inspired look.
The Pleasington Rain Jacket is an update of one that debuted from the 70s, the material has water repellent finish and zip kangaroo pockets
Inspired by a vintage football top from the French team FC Nantes, the Two Elevens Shirt delves into the brand’s rich history of sportswear.
The Mallison SPZL features styling from the AS700 shoe, but has been updated with a new colourway for this season.
The actual inspiration for this shoe isn’t fully known, it was an early prototype that was never fully made. The Wensley SPZL features nylon and suede overlays, with a gum sole.
The original Jogger reborn based on the Hawaii tooling, with a short T-toe overlay and retro suede upper.
Part of Drop 1, the Garwen SPZL has already proved to be popular – based around the Brisbane the brand have produced a low version of this boot with this great article.
After releasing the New York for FW15, the range explored other city series running shoes with the Atlanta SPZL. Originally released in 1983, the shoe’s colour is inspired by the City’s sports teams.

Dr Martens x United Arrows & Sons Collaboration
Dr. Martens have teamed up with Japanese retailer United Arrows & Sons on an exclusive pair of its signature 1461 three-hole shoe.
The collaboration draws from modern minimalism with a waterproof beige suede upper which matches Dr. Martens’ classic thick yellow stitching around the base and a Goodyear welted sole. The beige laces provide a cohesive round up of the design and lends itself to the minimal design of the sleek and sophisticated shoe.

Le Coq Sportif ‘Retro Affiches’
These Le coq sportif’s are now collector’s items in their own right. The Retro Affiches pack pays homage to French towns’ tourist posters from the ’70s and ’80s; each shoe referencing a different town’s poster. These shoes, made of premium nubuck, incorporate the colours of the poster that inspired them, which is reproduced on the tongue and on the shoe box. To accentuate the retro appeal, the sole features an aged effect.

adidas Spezial x Chronixx For SS17
Inspired by the rich sportswear heritage of adidas’ own archive, and its Global cultural impact, the adidas SPEZIAL collection has affirmed itself an important and integral part of the adidas Originals output over the course of the last two years. Its premium and carefully curated range of product is inspired by the brand’s past, and geared towards a modern, progressive perspective. At the core of the SPEZIAL range lies the idea of adoption and reinterpretation – to create solid products that are then left up to the individual’s interpretation in their styling.
For SS17 SPEZIAL collaborates with musician Chronixx and turns its attention to the parallels between British casual culture and Jamaican reggae culture. Two cultures which, at first glance, seem glaringly different but share a host of commonalities. Linked through a love of music, football and fashion, the two subcultures are paid tribute to in reinvented staples of modern menswear.
