Community Culture: A Bar With Shapes For A Name – Beams Boy AW22 Collection

To highlight the launch of the latest Beams Boy AW22 collection at HIP, we met up in Haggerston, London with Maria Kontorravdis – Bar Manager at the world renowned ‘A Bar With Shapes For A Name’.

The bar is influenced by the legendary art school Bauhaus with a clear focus on minimalism, functionalism and design across the interior all the way down to the drink’s recipes and even ice cubes. The bar’s conceptual name references the work of 20th century architect Wassily Kandinsky – who highlighted the correspondence between form and colour, finding commonality between yellow and triangles, red and squares, blue and circles.

First launched in 1998 – Beams Boy is a women’s sub-label within the famous Japanese fashion house of Beams Tokyo. Created for women who love the function and style found in traditional men’s Americana fashion, Beams Boy keeps a consistent emphasis on timeless garments – finding substance through silhouettes and fabric.
